| Second heats | 14.09.2008, 11:58
Second heats showed some impressive competition on the track in Slomczyn. Lukasz Zoll, Roman Castoral, Jussi Pinomaki and Sverre Isachsen were the fastest around.
RX Cup:
Lukasz Zoll was the fastest driver in the RX Cup division during second heats. The Pole didn’t hide his joy after winning his race after a fierce battle with Jos Sterkens, overtaking the Belgian when he was doing his compulsory joker lap. The second race was won by Per Niklas Loov, who would have been the fastest around, but received a 3 second penalty.
Other incidents on the track involved Patrick Mertens, who first jump started, and then spun. Jokke Kallio also spun while he was doing his joker lap.
Division 2:
Again, the competition in division 2 went quite smoothly, without any major mishaps. Tom Kotek and Roman Castoral won their respective races, and have topped the times. Castoral won, but only by 6 hundredths of a second. Derek Tohill, who drove a good race, eventually lost his lead on the last lap on joker lap, but still finished third overall in the heat.
Division 1A:
The second race in division 1A surely brought most excitement. No one was willing to let anyone pass by in the first corner, and that ended very badly. Only Even Hvaal and Michal Guranowski were able to drive away from the havoc, while Christian Petrakovits and Mats Lysen got stuck in the sideway. Mikolaj Kasiborski didn’t get going at all, he had to be pushed off the starting grid, experiencing some kind of technical failure. Other races went pretty well without any incidents.
In the end, Jussi Pinomaki again got the best result in division 1A, topping the times by 3 seconds from David Johansson.
Division 1:
The spectacle in division 1 was again huge. Tactics concerning when to go through joker lap usually decided the outcome of the races. Ludvig Hunsbedt, Chris Evans, Kjell Arne Smerud, Kenneth Hansen and Sverre Isachsen won their races during second heats. Marcus Gronholm drove a very good race, quickly overtaking Koutny after few corners, and jumping into the lead. But the Finn couldn’t hold off Smerud far enough, and lost the lead during his joker lap on the last pass.
There was, as usual, drama in the first corners. Pat Doran, along with Jean Luc Pailer, spun in the second corner. The Frenchman managed to get going again and finished the run. Doran, on the other hand, wasn’t so lucky, and had to retire after third lap.
It seems it is Sverre Isachsen's weekend. The Norwegian yet again set the pace. He was over a second faster than Andreas Eriksson and Kenneth Hansen.
